It has been reported he ordered sixty,000 shares of the enterprise for the same price tag in 2008, at which time Apple was buying and selling for about $124 for every share. And Gore's prosperity might soar even a lot more with analysts predicting Apple's share price tag may perhaps increase bigger in reaction to the company's launch of its quarterly earnings reviews on Tuesday.
the alma mater of family patriarch Archie ManningLAS VEGAS -- Brazilian light-heavyweight Thiago Silva has been banned for a year and fined US$33,750 after admitting to doping and tampering with his urine at a UFC 125 drug test. The Nevada State Athletic Commission handed down the ruling after a hearing Thursday. Silvas win over Brandon (The Truth) Vera on Jan. 1 was turned into a no contest. He cannot reapply for his license to fight until Jan. 2, 2012. The 28-year-old mixed martial arts fighter from Sao Paolo came clean last week after the Nevada commission alleged he submitted a specimen that was "inconsistent with human urine" before the bout. Silva subsequently issued a statement acknowledging he had taken a prohibited substance and then tried to conceal it by using a "urine adulterant." "I did so in an attempt to alter the results of the test and knowingly broke the rules of the Nevada Athletic Commission," he said. "This was a terrible decision on my part for which I will be punished. I am prepared to accept this punishment, learn from it and move on. "I apologize to the commission, the UFC, Brandon Vera and the MMA fans." Vera, after suffering his third straight defeat, was cut by the UFC in the wake of the Silva loss. But he has since been reinstated. Silva (14-2 with one no contest) is a highly regarded 205-pounder whose lone losses have been to Rashad Evans and Lyota Machida, both former UFC light-heavyweight champions. In his statement, the six-foot-one Silva said the chain of events leading to his decision to cheat started with a severe back injury shortly before the Evans fight in the main event of UFC 108 in January 2010. In order to fight, he took injections containing a prohibited substance and then tried to mask the presence of these substances in his urine. Cheap Miami Heat Jerseys . The Super Bowl winners still trust what their college mentor has to say. So when they needed somewhere to tune up their games before voluntary NFL workouts begin next week, they reunited with the coach theyve known for roughly two decades. "Thats why we came back here -- we come to get coached," Eli Manning said. "We thought this was a good way to come back, work on some of the mechanics, make sure everything is in check before we start working as a group and as a team." The Mannings brought some NFL teammates -- including new Denver receiver Wes Welker and New York Giants wideout Victor Cruz -- to Duke this week to fine-tune a few things and receive some guidance from their mentor. "Its an unusual relationship, one that I think we all appreciate," Cutcliffe said. "We all come out here and it really does go right back to coaching them. ... And now we can walk off the field and get in the car and become best of friends." Cutcliffe certainly goes way back with the Mannings. He was the offensive co-ordinator at Tennessee who groomed Peyton into the No. 1 overall draft pick in 1998. He took over later that year at Mississippi -- the alma mater of family patriarch Archie Manning -- and did the same thing for Eli, whom Cutcliffe says he has known since he was aa boy and "was going to the theatre to see The Lion King.dddddddddddd" "Eli and I are doing a lot of the same drills that I did when I was a freshman at Tennessee in 1994," Peyton said. "You get a good drill that teaches a certain fundamental, you dont have to change it. You do the same thing over and over again, and thats what I believe in is consistency. Thats something (Cutcliffe) helps me with -- consistency and trying to stay out of bad habits." The brothers certainly have grown quite comfortable on the Duke campus since Cutcliffe was hired before the 2008 season, attending North Carolina-Duke mens basketball games over the years with him. Theyre crashing at his house for this "three-day minicamp," Peyton said. Cutcliffe welcomed in Eli to work out in 2011, and Peyton made Duke his headquarters last spring while the four-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl winner recovered from neck surgery and talked to several NFL teams before signing a free-agent deal with the Broncos. "Last year, with the sort of unique circumstances I was in, I really needed a coach to coach me in my rehab," Peyton said. "And what better guy to go to than somebody whos seen me throw more than anybody except my dad, probably." Added Eli, who led the Giants to two Super Bowl wins in five years: "I think a lot of my mechanics, a lot of my fundamentals are because of doing his drills and his coaching through the years. You kind of want to go back to the source and make sure everythings in check." ' ' '

Austin Rivers sprained his right ankle for the second time in four days, falling backward in highly awkward fashion. An angst-laden game that didnt matter, for certain. Rookie Anthony Davis had 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the New Orleans Hornets to a 96-89 victory over the Miami Heat in the preseason finale for both teams on Friday night. The much-bigger news, however, was that each club thought it came away from some scary moments relatively unscathed. James shrugged off his pain-filled night, which ended with 2:18 left in the third quarter after he got inadvertently kicked in the face by Robin Lopez as they jostled for a rebound. Rivers told his team that he wanted to return moments after his frightening tumble. "Yeah, I feel this game," James said. "Took a foot to the face, sprained my ankle first drive of the game, missed eight layups. Ive had better nights." Rivers issue at first looked quite serious. The No. 10 overall pick out of Duke in this years draft did not return after his ankle injury, one where he initially couldnt put any weight on that side, then walked to the Hornets locker room gingerly but without assistance. X-rays werent deemed necessary, but further evaluation was scheduled for Saturday. "When I see him go down like that, you always think the worst," Hornets coach Monty Williams said. "Hes been able to come back from these kinds of injuries before. Hes walking around. Hes in the locker room. He wanted to come back into the game. ... Just glad hes OK." Chris Bosh led Miami with 21 points and 10 rebounds. James scored 19 points and Dwyane Wade finished with 15 on 7 for 19 shooting for the Heat, who shot only 38 per cent and were outrebounded 45-39. Greivis&nbssp;Vasquez scored 18 points, Ryan Anderson added 17, Al-Farouq Aminu finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Lopez scored 11 for the Hornets. China Jerseys Free Shipping. Miami opens defence of its NBA title at home on Tuesday night against the Boston Celtics -- the team the Heat needed seven games to oust in a classic Eastern Conference finals last spring. The Hornets open Wednesday, playing host to the San Antonio Spurs. Neither team led by more than six points for the first 47-plus minutes -- not until Andersons 3-pointer with 45 seconds left gave the Hornets a 94-86 lead, all but sealing the outcome. "We grew up tonight," Williams said. It should have counted as two victories for the Hornets -- one on the floor, the other with the news that Rivers seemed fine. He was cutting on the left wing and seemed to make contact with Miami guard Norris Cole, who also grimaced and fell over on the play. Rivers said earlier in the week that he intended to be ready for the season opener -- and the Hornets even had him in the starting lineup Friday night, satisfied that the ankle injury from an awkward landing on a layup attempt against Dallas on Monday night was sufficiently healed. James went out after he and Lopez got tangled under a basket. As they both started to fall, one of Lopezs legs sailed up -- and his foot met James face. "Thats a first," James said. Earlier Friday, the Heat got their roster down to 16 players -- one over the maximum to start the season -- by waiving forwards Rodney Carney and Jarvis Varnado. Carney averaged 6.8 points in five preseason games. Varnado didnt appear in any preseason games because of injury issues. ' ' '
Gagne leads all QMJHL defencemen with 10 goalsMatt Cooke now owns the dubious distinction of being assessed the longest suspension in Pittsburgh Penguins history. cheap jerseys china . As a repeat offender, given the fact Cooke targeted Ryan McDonaghs head, as well as the heightened sensitivity that exists in the game today, there was no way he was going to escape this incident without harsh penalty. Prognosticators, from all corners of the hockey community, pegged the suspension in the 10-15 game range prior to the leagues announcement, so the fact Cooke could sit a maximum 17 games and minimum of 14 comes in on the high-end of what many believed the flagrant elbow was worth. Cookes suspension is the fifth of his career, and third involving blows to the head. However, among his most dastardly acts, a blindside hit on Bostons Marc Savard last season that went undisciplined, was used as a primary example in the NHL developing Rule 48. Some believe the hit on Savard impacted Colin Campbells decision to lower the boom on Cooke for his latest incident. Meanwhile, Penguins general manager Ray Shero and Pens head coach Dan Bylsma are being applauded around the league for speaking so candidly in support of the NHLs strong sentence. Pittsburgh owner Mario Lemieux has been both critical of the National Hockey Leagues sanctions, and supportive of significant fines for teams who Lemieux says must be accountable for their players actions. Cookes lapse in judgment at best put Lemieux and the Penguins in a very awkward and frustrating position. Sources say Cooke met with his teammates in a players only meeting on Sunday night and allegedly, apologized for his actions. cheap jerseys 2013 . Her lineup is unusual in that Sigfriddson throws lead stonesCHICAGO -- Ryan Evans jumps when he shoots free throws. Cheap Jerseys From China . Ben Brust looks as if he just got his drivers license, and Mike Bruesewitzs shaggy hair draws snickers every time Wisconsin goes on the road. The Badgers may not look like a top team, but they sure play like one. Evans scored 16 points in a terrific all-around performance and No. 22 Wisconsin upset No. 3 Indiana 68-56 in the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament Saturday. "Were playing our best basketball at the end of the season, and thats what you want to do," Bruesewitz said. The Badgers allowed only seven points after the top-seeded Hoosiers pulled within one with 9:45 left. They earned their 12th consecutive win against Indiana, tying a record for any school against the powerhouse program, and will play No. 10 Ohio State in Sundays final. "There are just things in this game, no matter how you try to explain them, they defy explanation," Ryan said, shrugging away Wisconsins long run against Indiana. "But we have players who are willing to work, to listen, to buy in." Brust added 12 points for Wisconsin (23-10), which has won three straight and six of eight. Sam Dekker scored nine of his 11 points in the second half, including seven in a row during one impressive burst. Christian Watford scored 14 points for Indiana (27-6), and Cody Zeller had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Victor Oladipo scored 10, but was 4 for 12 from the field. The Hoosiers, who won the regular-season conference title, now have to wait until Sunday to see if they did enough to earn a coveted No. 1 seed for the NCAA tournament. "Obviously we wanted to get this win today," Zeller said. "Well learn from it, well figure out what we did wrong. Well make the corrections and be ready for next week." Zeller and Oladipo each made a couple of big plays when Wisconsin tried to pull away in the second half. Zeller scored the first five points in a 10-0 run that gave the Hoosiers a 41-40 lead with 13:27 remaining. Oladipo soared in for a big offensive rebound and made a pull-up jumper during a quick six-point burst that got Indiana within one with 9:45 remaining. The Badgers then ripped off eight of the next 10 points to open a 58-51 lead. Evans had a layup, Brust went 1 for 2 at the line, Jared Berggren made a big 3-pointer and Dekker dunked inside off a nice pass from Jackson. "Just biding my time, picking my spots," Berggren said of his only 3-point attempt in a 4-for-4 performance from the field. "I was open a couple times. Coaches told me to be aggressive. I was looking for a great shot, not a good one. It felt good." That strong stretch was enough to put away the Hoosiers, who managed just two field goals in the final 5:02. Watford also hurt Indianas chances when he missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 2:15 to go and the Badgers up by five. "We made a couple comebacks this game, and did an excellent job of that," coach Tom Crean said. "But every time we made that comeback with what was working for us, we got away from it. We had some critical turnovers at key times, we had some critical second shots we gave up at key times." Berggren finished with 11 points for the Badgers, who shot 51 per cent from the field. Evans had eight rebounds, four assists, four blocked shots and a steal. Wisconsin joins Purdue as the only schools with 12 straight victories against Indiana. The Boilermakers put together their run from Feb. 26, 1908, to Feb. 9, 1914. "You take advantage of what you can, try to get good opportunities every time down, and try to limit their opportunities," Ryan said. "Its that constant clash. The game never changes. Ive never outcoached anyone, outmanoeuvred anyone, outstrategized anyone." With open looks hard to come by on each side of the court, the Hoosiers and Badgers turned to the 3-pointer in the first half to try to make some room for their big men inside. Watford and Remy Abell made 3-pointers on consecutive Indiana possessions to help the Hoosiers open a 20-14 lead with 9:04 remaining. Wisconsin responded with a 12-2 spurt that included 3s from Brust and Bruesewitz. Wisconsin was 7 for 18 from long range for the game, compared to 5 for 17 for Indiana. "The biggest story for us was weve been defending the 3 the last six, seven games at an incredibly high level, and today we didnt," Crean said. "They got some kick-out 3s and things of that nature, but we got away from what had been making us better." Cheap NFL Jerseys . Having the reigning MVP, Corey Perry, is a great way to start and Perry has to be considered a high first-round pick in most leagues, not only because hes averaged better than a point-per-game over the last three seasons, but Perrys agitating style has resulted in more than 100 penalty minutes for four straight seasons. Her Edmonton team lost twice on the final day of the preliminary round Thursday to finish 7-4. Canada will face Allison Pottinger of the U.S. in a tiebreaker game today. Dont miss any of the action live on TSN and TSN.ca, beginning at 4pm et/1pm pt. Nedohin lost 9-3 to Scotlands Eve Muirhead and 6-5 to Italys Diana Gaspari. Neither country was in playoff contention at that point. Swedens Margaretha Sigfriddson, Switzerlands Mirjam Ott and South Koreas Ji-Sun Kim had 8-3 records and ranked first to third respectively. The tiebreaker winner claims the fourth and final playoff berth and meets South Korea on Saturday afternoon in a Page playoff game. Sweden and Switzerland meet in the Page playoff between the top two seeds later this evening (TSN and TSN.ca at 9pm et/6pm pt). The victor advances to Sundays final while the loser drops to the semifinal Saturday evening to meet the winner the afternoon playoff. South Korea qualified for the playoffs for the first time in its four appearances at the world championship. The Americans won seven games in a row to get into a tiebreaker. So Pottingers team has momentum and the Canadians need to generate some quickly Friday. "Have you ever seen hungry Canadians? Were feisty," Nedohin declared. "Well be back tomorrow. Canada led or co-led for all but one draw of the round robin. But their inconsistent performances in the home stretch contrasted starkly with two victories Wednesday when they looked comfortable and confident. If the Canadians cant recapture that chemistry in time for the tiebreaker, the country will finish out of the medals for just the third time in the last decade. "Were at least in the hunt," Nedohin said. "I think thats what Im going to hold onto right now." Nedohin, third Beth Iskiw, second Jessica Mair and lead Laine Peters were slow starters and strong finishers in the preliminary round, but their second-half surge went missing against the Scots and Italians. "I would say the skip didnt show up today," Nedohin said. "Ill be there tomorrow. "If anybody needs to play well, its the person throwing the last shots and I take full responsibility of today. My performance was low and thats not what you get out of me. Im surprised at two games back to back." Canada squandered a chance to score two in the second end versus the Scots and they were not in the game after that. Muirheads team scored two in the third, stole two in the fourth and scored another three in the seventh. Against Italy, Canada was in all kinds of trouble in the eighth end. Nedohin had to make a pressure draw just to limit the damage to a steal of one. "Weve had a season of great times, great moments and some flat days like that and we always bounce back really quickly," Iskiw said.dddddddddddd Canada opened the championship with an 8-7 win over Pottinger on Saturday. After losing four to open the tournament, Pottingers St. Paul Curling Club rink went on an incredible run. "A lot of games, a lot of rocks to get here," Pottinger said. "Were super-excited. Everyones got a great feel for the ice, so hopefully momentum keeps carrying us right through." South Korea made its world championship debut in 2005. Kim has skipped her country three of four times. After going 3-8 in 2009 and 2-9 last year, she and her teammates took a monumental step forward in international womens curling. "First time. Very exciting. Unbelievable," Kim said. "Its very difficult to make playoffs. Korea sees we are a team and now is very good." Her curling teams performance here indicates the country is already ramping up for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. But the 25-year-old Kim is plotting Olympic success before that. "I want 2014," the petite skip declared. "I want to go to the Sochi Olympics." Their coach Min Suk Choi says Kim is gaining confidence as she plays more international games. Kims team also faced North American competition in World Curling Tour events in both Calgary and Medicine Hat, Alta., last October. Sweden is a high-scoring team and led the field in ends scoring multiple points with last-rock advantage. Sigfriddson isnt afraid to give up two points to score three with hammer the next end. "You have to give up two sometimes, especially at the worlds," Sigfriddson said. "The ice is really made for being easy to score two on, so you have to accept that. Thats according to play sometimes." Her lineup is unusual in that Sigfriddson throws lead stones, but holds the broom and calls the play in the house for her teammates. Maria Prytz throws fourth stones. "Its what I like and that lineup is fast as well," Sigfriddson pointed out. "If I was second or third, we would play slower." Sigfriddson defeated two-time Olympic and four-time world championship Anette Norberg to win the Swedish womens title and book their trip to the world championship. Sigfriddson downplayed the significance of it. "I think that Anette is a little bit bigger all around the world and not in Sweden," Sigfriddson said. "Of course shes done a tremendous job for curling, but weve played her so many times and we know we can beat her." Scotland posted a 6-5 record ahead of Germanys Melanie Robillard and Denmarks Lene Nielson at 5-6 and Russias Anna Sidorova at 4-7. Italy and Chinas Bingyu Wang finished 3-8 and Linda Klimova of the Czech Republic at 2-9. ' ' '

Weeks homered twice, drove in four runs and scored three times Tuesday night to lead the Milwaukee Brewers over the Chicago Cubs 9-3. "Ive been feeling good for a while now," Weeks said. "A little bit over a month now, probably." Weeks had just one hit in the first five games against Chicago this season -- all part of what could only be called a miserable slump. But Weeks is now on a nine-game hitting streak in which hes batting .438 (14 for 32) with four homers and seven RBI. "It feels good," he said after his seventh career multi-homer game and first since Sept. 5, 2012. "Its just one of those things where you keep working on things, and just go out there and play ball. Theres no satisfaction. Theres no big answer. Just go out there and play ball like Ive been doing." Jonathan Lucroy added a two-run double and Juan Francisco also homered for Milwaukee, which has defeated Chicago 19 of the last 21 times at home -- including nine in a row. "We lost nine straight?" Chicagos Anthony Rizzo asked. "(I had) no idea. I dont know if anyone in this clubhouse knows that." Kyle Lohse (3-6) gave up eight hits and three earned runs in seven innings. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Chicagos Edwin Jackson (3-10) allowed six earned runs and six hits in 4 2-3 innings to fall to 0-3 against Milwaukee this season. "From the get-go, he didnt have much of a fastball," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "He averaged 92 mph. It is going to be tough for him to pitch with that velocity." Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro, mired in a 13-for-98 (.133) slump, had his streak of appearing in 269 consecutive games come to an end. It was the longest active streak in the National League. Milwaukee, which improved to 5-1 against Chicago this season, scored five runs in the fifth to erase a 3-1 deficit. Jackson, who has walked at least one batter in every game this season, issued one to Francisco to start the inning and he scored on a double to left-centre field by Weeks. Rookie Caleb Gindl collected his first run batted in on a single to centre that tied the score 3-3. Jean Segura made it 4-3 on a double to right, his NL-leading 100th hit of the year. Lucroy followed with a single to left field to give his team a 6-3 lead and chase Jackson. "I put myself in a position to get out of that inning with one run and still a 3-2 game," Jackson said. "I wasnt able to put those guys away. Balls up, balls getting too much of the plate with two strikes." Hector Rondon gave up a leadoff double to Francisco in the sixth before Weeks homered to right for an 8-3 lead. "When hes driving it the other way, hes going to be a tough out," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. "Hes swinging the bat better, no question." The second baseman added a solo blast to deep centre for a 9-3 lead in the eighth. Franciscos solo homer, his seventh, came in the second. In the third, Chicago took a 3-1 lead on Nate Schierholtzs three-run homer to right, his 11th of the season. "He just got one pitch," Lohse said. "That happens in this game. I thought I made a pretty good pitch. It just came back a little bit over the middle. Ive got to give it to our defence and offence. They picked me up. Usually you give up some runs early like that its tough to come back." Notes: Chicago designated RHP Carlos Marmol for assignment and selected the contract of outfielder Brian Bogusevic. . Brewers CF Carlos Gomez, who sprained his left shoulder running into the outfield wall while making a catch Sunday, did not play. He could miss the entire series against Chicago. . Cheap Jerseys . -- Ricky Stenhouse Jr. moved a big step closer toward defending his Nationwide Series championship with a strong run at Phoenix International Raceway. He also got some help from Elliott Sadler, who had a rough day start to finish. The two title contenders started Saturday tied for the championship, and likely would have gone into next weekends finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway locked into a tight race. But as Stenhouse battled Joey Logano and Brian Vickers for the lead headed to the white flag, Elliott Sadler imploded 10 positions behind them. Sadler was racing hard for 12th with Justin Allgaier and Cole Whitt when he triggered a three-car accident. "I just got loose. Its hard to put this into words," Sadler said. "Its been a long, great season and my guys deserve better effort from me than wrecking the car on the last lap." The accident brought the race to a halt, and Sadler had to sit in his battered car as NASCAR cleaned the track. Once cleared, he returned to pit road for some futile repairs, but the race went on without him into overtime. Logano pulled away in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota for his ninth win of the season, with Vickers finishing second. Stenhouse wound up third, and Sadler, his wounded car sputtering and sparking, was 22nd. Sadler was 10 points behind Stenhouse before the accident, but now goes to the finale down by 20. It capped a day that saw him wreck his primary Chevrolet on his qualifying lap, and it took his Richard Childress Racing team almost until the start of the race to get his backup car prepared. "I did it to myself. I put my team in a hole, qualifying like we did," he said. "We tried to work on this car as much as we could, and I just got a little loose there and got into (Whitt). It was 100 per cent my fault. I should have done a better job for these guys and I just apologize to them for putting them in this position heading into Homestead. We dont have a dog in the fight, but I definitely dug ourselves a hole." Stenhouse needs to finish 16th or better at Homestead to become the sixth driver in Nationwide history to win consecutive titles. "That makes us feel good, but weve given up 20 points in one race, so its not over til its over," he said. "Weve still got some work to do, but it feels pretty good." Stenhouse also said it will be difficult putting a strategy together with his Roush Fenway Racing team for next week. "Its going to be tough because Im going to have to not push the limits as much as I like," he said. "I like going for race wins, too, so its going to be a fine balance there because I want to win that race and win the championship all at the same time. We were close last year running second there at the end and finished second, and kind of had to share the burnout stage there with (race winner) Brad (Keselowski), so hopefully we dont have to do that." Lions re-signed non-import receiver Akeem Foster to a contract extension Tuesday. VANCOUVER -- Chalk two up for the underdogs. Milos Raonic and Frank Dancevic staked Canada to a 2-0 lead over favoured Spain on the first day of a Davis Cup tie on Friday. After Raonic opened with a hard-fought win over Albert Ramos, Dancevic cruised to a straight-sets victory over Marcel Granollers, putting the home squad on the verge of a major upset -- and Canadian tennis history -- in the best-of-five series. "(The ball) felt good coming off the racket," said Dancevic, who is ranked 166th in the world, the lowest of any player competing this weekend. "Its definitely one of the best matches of my career, I have to say. Hes not an easy player to play." Spain, ranked No. 1 in the world, is a five-time Davis Cup champion and reached the finals last year before being upset by the Czech Republic. Canada, meanwhile, has never advanced beyond the first round of World Group play, which is open to the top 16 countries. "It is not over, even if we believe that we might need a miracle to win this tie right now," said Spanish captain Alex Corretja. With a win in doubles play Saturday, Canada can advance further than it ever has in Davis Cup play. "We know how difficult is the situation, and (Saturday), we go out there and try to win doubles -- for sure," said Corretja. "Right now, it is not easy to feel anything positive, because we just lost two matches and, especially, the second one is quite sad." A year ago, Dancevic, a 28-year-old Niagara Falls, Ont., native, was an alternate for a Davis Cup tie here with France, and only drew in after Raonic suffered a minor knee injury and could not play his second rubber match. Dancevic drew in this time largely because Vancouvers Vasek Pospisil is recuperating from mononucleosis and will only play doubles. But Dancevic defeated Granollers, Spains top singles player for this event, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 with relative ease. The Canadians biggest battle came at the end as Granollers staved off two match points and then hit the ball long on the third one. "I played my game style from the first point til the last point -- Im very proud of myself for that," said Dancevic. "Its a big step for me." Corretja said Dancevic played like his eyes were closed as all of his shots seemed to stay in. "He was absolutely amazing, and its a shame that we didnt find a way to damage his game," said Corretja. "And its also a shame that he is not better on the tour, because seeing a guy with such (an) amount of talent on his racket, and being 166th in the world, Im kind of surprised that hes not better -- because I think he should be better. That would be great for the tour, because his game is beautiful to watch. "Unfortunately, today, it was painful to watch -- for us." Raonic struggled early in the opening match but still got Canada off to a good start. The Thornhill, Ont., native overcame a one-set deficit to beat Ramos 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 before a crowd of 6,012 at UBCs Thunderbird Sports Centre. "I dont think I faced a break point, so I took care of my serve," said Raonic. "I was a little bit disappointed a few timees. Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping. I was 40-love and I would make sloppy mistakes to 40-15 and let him get to 40-30. "I just need to execute those a little bit better." Raonics Spanish opponent allowed that he was outplayed. "I played well, but in the end he played better than I did," said Ramos. Raonic, ranked 15th in the world, entered the match as the clear favourite. Ramos, ranked 51st, and listed as Spains No. 2 singles player for this event, was playing his first-ever Davis Cup match. But Ramos was not consoled by his strong early showing or the way he battled throughout the contest. "Im not happy," he said. "I play to win, so Im not happy." Raonic struggled early, hitting the net several times on what appeared to be routine forehand shots. Raonic held a 5-3 lead in the first-set tiebreaker, but missed while attempting to return a long Ramos shot to go down 6-5 and then hit a long shot out to give the Spaniard the opening set. Raonic said it was frustrating to lose the first set, but he still felt good because he was creating chances for himself to earn points. He adjusted his positioning further left in the second set to ensure that Ramos could not keep his shots along the sideline in. Canadas top singles player finished with 26 aces on the day, while Ramos recorded 13. However, the Spaniard never managed to break Raonics serve over the course of 43 games. "It was difficult to return the Canadians serve," said Ramos. Spain is playing without four of its highest-ranked players -- David Ferrer (fourth), Rafael Nadal (fifth), Nicolas Almagro (11th) and Fernando Verdasco (24th) -- this weekend. While Nadal and Almagro are recovering from injuries, Ferrer and Verdasco chose to rest. Raonic said the first win was "very important" for Canadas confidence. He triumphed while playing the opening match in Davis Cup play for the first time. "The only thing I have to get used (to) today thats a little bit different than playing the second match, like Ive always done before, is that opening ceremony," he said. "People expect you to be calm, quiet, but I sort of like to get activated before. "So during that whole opening ceremony, I was like fidgeting back and forth and then during the national anthem, out of respect, you stand still. "But that (ceremony) the only difficult thing (about preparing for the opening match) because your routine changes a bit going out there." As it turned out, Raonic did not get the start he wanted, but he got the finish Canada needed, much to the delight of the raucous red-and-white clad, flag-waving crowd. "I was not giving them too much to work with, but it was amazing how supportive they were and how loud they were," he said. Canadian captain Martin Laurendeau said Raonics early victory "set the tone" for the opening-day sweep. "For sure, that had an impact on (Dancevic)," said Laurendeau. "Watching in the locker-room and seeing his teammate put us 1-0 ahead, it certainly helps to follow up and to, maybe, swing a bit more freely. "But I guess he swung a lot more freely." ' ' '
Baltimore Orioles infielder Wilson Betemit estimates hell be out for sixSAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Famed Puerto Rican boxer Hector "Macho" Camacho is clinically brain dead, doctors said Thursday, but family members disagreed on whether to take him off life support and two of the fighters aunts said later that relatives had agreed to wait two more days. Cheap NFL Jerseys . Dr. Ernesto Torres said doctors had no more medical tests to perform on Camacho, who was shot in the face Tuesday night. "We have done everything we could," said Torres, who is director of the Centro Medico trauma centre in San Juan. "We have to tell the people of Puerto Rico and the entire world that Macho Camacho has died, he is brain dead." He said at a news conference Thursday morning that Camachos father indicated he wanted the boxer taken off life support and his organs donated, but other relatives opposed the idea. "This is a very difficult moment," Torres said. One of the fighters aunts, Aida Camacho, said Thursday evening that two of Camachos sisters had asked to have two more days to spend with him, and other family members had agreed even though they felt it was time to give in. "Im a person of a lot of faith, and I believe in miracles, but science has spoken," she said. Another aunt, Blanca Camacho, also said the family had agreed to the wishes of the two sisters from New York to hold off on ending life support. But, she added, "Theres nothing left here. Hes already dead." Most of Camachos relatives left the hospital by Thursday night without commenting. About a dozen people stood vigil outside. One, Orvil Miller, a singer and actor, expressed sadness about Camachos fate and recalled his admiration for the fighters flamboyance. "He had the combination of the skills of a boxer along with a great sense for entertainment," Miller said. Steve Tannenbaum, a friend and a former boxing agent for Camacho, said in a phone interview that he idolized Camacho as a boxer. "He is one of the greatest small fighters that I have ever seen," he said. "Hector Camacho had a legendary status." Tannenbaum said he initially believed Camacho would survive. "He was almost like the indestructible man. He had so many troubles with the law, so many altercations in his life. Its a great shame." The 50-year-old Camacho was shot as he and a friend sat in a Ford Mustang parked outside a bar Tuesday night. Police spokesman Alex Diaz said officers found nine small bags of cocaine in the friends pocket, and a 10th bag open inside the car. Camachos friend, identified as 49-year-old Adrian Mojica Moreno, was killed in the attack. Doctors had initially said Camacho was expected to survive, but his condition worsened and his heart stopped briefly overnight Tuesday, Torres said. The bullet entered his jaw and lodged in his shoulder after tearing through three of four main arteries in his neck, affecting blood flow through his brain, doctors said. "That lack of oxygen greatly damaged Macho Camachos brain," Torres said. Camacho was born in Bayamon, a city within the San Juan metropolitan area, but he grew up mostly in New Yorks Harlem neighbourhood, earning the nickname "the Harlem Heckler." He won super lightweight, lightweight and junior welterweight world titles in the 1980s and fought high-profile bouts against Felix Trinidad, Julio Cesar Chavez and Sugar Ray Leonard. Camacho knocked out Leonard in 1997, ending the former champs final comeback attempt. Camacho had a career record of 79-6-3. In recent years, he divided his time between Puerto Rico and Florida, appearing regularly on Spanish-language television as well as on a reality show called "Es Macho Time!" on YouTube. In San Juan, he had been living in the beach community of Isla Verde, where he would readily pose for photos with tourists who recognized him on the street, said former pro boxer Victor "Luvi" Callejas, a neighbour and friend. Camacho battled drugs, alcohol and other problems throughout his life. He was sentenced in 2007 to seven years in prison for the burglary of a computer store in Mississippi. While arresting him on the burglary charge in January 2005, police also found the drug ecstasy. A judge eventually suspended all but one year of the sentence and gave Camacho probation. He wound up serving two weeks in jail, though, after violating that probation. His wife also filed domestic abuse complaints against him twice before their divorce several years ago.
